SEMINAR ONE – "National Security: The New Landscape” will investigate the political, philosophical and legal framework in which national security legislation has been introduced to address:

  • Data Retention
  • Telco Interception
  • Intelligence and Security
  • Whistle blowers

How do such measures sit against our modern democratic commitments to free speech, media freedom and individual privacy?   The analysis will include a look at the technology involved in the implementing these laws and how the same issues have been addressed in other jurisdictions.

It will look at the difficulties confronting reformers and lawmakers in this area.
